Job Description

What a Day Looks Like

You start your shift by checking the CMMS to review open work orders and recent history. A production line needs attention, so you perform break-fix tasks and scheduled preventive maintenance, fine-tuning device components and control instruments to keep everything running smoothly. If a part is worn, you repair or replace it; if a tool needs reconditioning, you bring it back to spec.

Later in the day, you identify parts and supplies to restock, jump in to back up teammates as needed, and help keep the workspace aligned with 5S and housekeeping standards. Continuous improvement is part of your rhythm—you participate in CI efforts focused on better processes, measurable results, and cost savings.

When required, you set up basic machining operations—lathe, drill press, grinder, and similar tools—to fabricate or repair components, and you may perform basic welding. You close out the day by documenting work performed, updating records, and reviewing CMMS history to inform future maintenance strategies. Along the way, you perform basic troubleshooting on control-system circuitry and follow all safety policies with strong situational awareness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute entry- to mid-level corrective and preventive maintenance.
  • Adjust functional assemblies and control instruments; repair/replace defective components; recondition machine tools.
  • Identify needed parts, supplies, and repair items to support uptime.
  • Provide cross-coverage and support for other team members as directed by leadership.
  • Apply knowledge of maintenance industry standards and uphold 5S/housekeeping.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives focusing on processes, results, and cost reduction.
  • Set up and operate basic machining equipment (e.g., lathe, drill press, grinder); perform basic welding as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and review CMMS history.
  • Troubleshoot basic control-system circuitry.
  • Pursue technical self-study to support career development.
  • Follow all safety policies, regulations, and technical instructions; maintain situational awareness and identify unsafe conditions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Associate degree with a technical focus OR 18+ months of related general-industry experience OR successful completion of the ATS Technician Progression Program.
  • Working understanding of basic electrical and mechanical systems with hands-on repair capability.
  • Proficiency with basic hand tools.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Regularly: stand, walk, use hands/fingers, reach, climb/ascend/descend or balance (including ladder or lift), stoop/kneel/crouch/crawl in confined spaces, and communicate clearly.
  • Occasionally: sit; lift and/or move items over 50 lbs.
  • Vision: frequent close and color vision.
  • Exposure: occasional outdoor weather and electrical shock risk.
  • Typical setting: loud factory environment; potential exposure to hazardous materials and greasy or slippery floors.
