The Institute for the Redesign of Learning (IRL) is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Adult Instructor to join our Transitions & Adult Services team. This full-time (35 hrs/week) role offers the opportunity to help clients build independence and life skills through engaging lessons and community experiences—all while working alongside a supportive, mission-driven team.

💼 Salary: $18.50–$22.23/hour*
(*based on experience, education, certifications, & bilingual skills)

What You’ll Do

• Teach daily living and vocational skills in classroom and community settings
• Provide individualized and group instruction, supervision, and support
• Transport clients to volunteer sites and community activities
• Track and report client progress using Google Drive and Class Dojo
• Collaborate with your team and adjust to program needs as they evolve

What You’ll Bring

• High school diploma (Associate’s degree or college coursework preferred)
• ​​​​​​​ Experience or interest in working with individuals with developmental disabilities
• Strong communication and technology skills (Microsoft Office, Zoom, etc.)
• Valid CA driver’s license, auto insurance (100/300k liability), and clean background
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

ABOUT IRL

The Institute for the Redesign of Learning (IRL) is a multi-service, community-based Special Education, mental health, job development, and training facility for special needs children, students, and adults. IRL began in 1974 when its founder, Nancy J. Lavelle, Ph.D., created the Almansor Education Center located in a church on Almansor Street in Alhambra, California. With the belief that every student has the ability to “take charge” of their own learning process, Dr. Lavelle established a unique environment and individualized curriculum and created appropriate support and enrichment services designed to turn student and client learning failures into learning successes. Now over forty years later, the Institute for the Redesign of Learning offers six programs designed to provide a continuum of care for individuals with Special Needs, ages infants through adults, serving children, students, and clients throughout the greater Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley communities.
