ABOUT OUR GROUP:
The San Jose Storage Design Center (SDC) is part of Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC).  We are responsible for the design and development of hard disk drives (HDDs), solving interesting and challenging problems and supporting Toshiba in meeting the world’s ever-growing storage needs.  SDC is a relatively small but diverse group, with a flexible and supportive work environment. 

JOB OVERVIEW:
As a summer intern on the firmware team, you will have the chance to work on cutting-edge HDD technologies. You will collaborate with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams to meet product requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Characterize HDD read/write performance under various workloads through data collection and firmware analysis.
• Analyze test data against performance specifications, and report and review your findings with the development team.
• Enhance and develop high-quality embedded firmware.
• Prepare design documents and conduct design reviews .

QUALIFICATIONS :

• Currently pursuing an Engineering degree or a related field, ideally with graduate-level coursework.
• Strong embedded coding skills with foundational knowledge or experience in embedded firmware design, implementation, and debugging.
• Self-starter with excellent analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Familiarity with code analysis and development tools (version control, compilers, linkers, interface bus analyzers).

NICE-TO-HAVES:

• Experience with interface bus analyzers.
• Familiarity with SATA/SAS protocols.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python.
• Experience using MATLAB.

Salary Range: $45/hour
